BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Intensity was at one of the highest levels it has been all fall today at the morning session of Indiana football practice. Both the offensive and defensive lines put the three fingers on the line and made the pads pop in a fierce manner.
A drill that has certainly caught the eye of many onlookers, the OL/DL station peaked halfway through, when line coaches Joe Cullen and Steve Addazio turned the intensity up a notch themselves. At the end of the drill, the respect among the two lines was shown with both lines' hands raised as they broke out of the huddle.
Offesnviely, senior quarterback Gibran Hamdan had a couple nice completions today, with the common receiver being Glenn Johnson. The junior from Clewiston, Fla., Johnson leaped into the air more than once and successfully brought down the ball in a crowded area of defenders.
Yamar Washington also had many key runs today during the team drill. Whether he darted up the middle or gained yardage off halfback screens, the Houston, Texas freshman back continued to show improvement in the ball-handling and quickness areas.
Challenging for the No. 3 position at quarterback, Allen Webb had two big connections with Tyke Spencer today, which improved his stock against classmate Graeme McFarland. The leading candidate for the No. 3 spot, McFarland has also continued to hookup with receivers in practice, which has made the IU quarterback battle a good one to watch.
The Hoosiers open the season at 4 p.m. on August 31 when they battle William & Mary at Memorial Stadium.
