Team Building at Bradford Woods (8-22-02)

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey squad departed early this morning for a day of team building at Indiana University's Outdoor Leadership and Development Center, Bradford Woods.
Bradford Woods offers opportunities for students, groups and organizations that would like to further develop group interaction skills, leadership skills and/or technical skills. They provide a variety of programs to enrich and educate all ages.
The field hockey team will enjoy outdoor recreational activities that are geared towards enriching personal skills. Outdoor adventure-based activities are custom designed to create a supportive environment that encourages maximum group growth and interaction.
During the morning session, the team will break up into two groups and each group will have different problem-solving challenges to accomplish. The latter part of the day will focus more on individual challenges.
The coaching staff has taken great strides to build their three-year-old program. Strategically they have planned out practices to focus on aspects such as the fundamentals, specific game situations and teaching the team how to win. However, there is one more underlining concept that is crucial to the success of a team, and that is team unity.
"A huge team focus this year is building team unity and chemistry," head coach Amy Robertson said. "We are doing a lot of activities to accomplish this. We are working with a performance consultant, Rob Kehoe, who has worked with the men's soccer team in the past. I have worked with Rob at a previous institution, and he is just great. We are also making this trip to Bradford Woods for a challenge course. So the whole preseason will be very team oriented."
