BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's soccer team has been ranked preseason No. 1 by Soccer America in a poll released today, making the Hoosiers consensus choice as the top-ranked team in the country in all three polls to start the season. IU was also awarded the top spot by College Soccer News and the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA).
Indiana opens the regular season at home this weekend with the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic at Bill Armstrong Stadium on the IU campus. In addition to the top-ranked Hoosiers, No. 8 Clemson, No. 9 Rutgers and Butler will participate in the event. Classic action kicks off at 5 p.m. when Butler meets Clemson on Friday, Aug. 30. Indiana will face Rutgers, in the late game at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Rutgers will face Butler in the first game of the night at 5:30 p.m. and Indiana will take on Clemson at 8 p.m.
The Hoosiers played a pair of exhibition contests last weekend in the IPFW Soccer Showcase in Ft. Wayne. On Friday, IU tied with No. 25 Kentucky and then defeated No. 2 Virginia, 3-2, on Sunday.
