A Long Wait Finally Comes to an End

Bloomington, Ind. - The field hockey team packs the bus today and heads east to open their season against Miami University (Ohio) tomorrow at 1:00.
The Hoosiers have been working hard on and off the field in preparation for their 2002 campaign. They have endured double session practices, weight training, and team building exercises in order to be prepared physically and mentally. The players feel confident and excited to start the season.
Lauren Brophy - Sophomore goalie
"I think that we are all really excited for tomorrow's game. During preseason, we have come a long way, not only on the field, but also off the field we have gotten to know each other better. We really have a great group. We have progressed tremendously from last year. I think that we are looking forward to our first game."
Morgan Albini - Freshman midfielder/ back
"I am really excited and I am looking forward to our first game and our first challenge. I am excited for the competition and a chance to prove how hard we have worked."
Ginna Irwin - Junior midfielder
"I think that we have really come together this preseason. I feel that we look great, better than we have looked in the past. I am excited to see what happens this weekend in our first game. We should all play really good together this weekend."
Ryan Woolsey - Sophomore forward
"I am definitely really excited for the game tomorrow. We have all been working so hard and we are ready to compete and play a game. We want to get out there on the field and try everything that we have been working on so far. I think that preseason ended up really strong on an up note. We are feeling good physically and mentally."

"We are eager to take our first test against Miami. I think we have worked hard this preseason...not only physically but also mentally. We are playing a new system to generate greater attack and we have installed a more efficient defense. The team has responded extremely well to a lot of new information and to the challenge of building and maintaining team unity. You learn a lot about your team after your first game...strength and deficiencies...so at this point we are waiting for 1pm on Saturday to roll around."

"I have never felt more confident about our team's preparation and desire to make a mark in our home opener. Although our pre-season was very demanding, I think the team has weathered the highs and lows that come from the intensity of training, and is now focused on the start of the season. Saturday couldn't come any sooner...the girls are ready to compete."
