Bloomington, Ind. - The 2002 field hockey schedule and roster have been released today. With 15 returning players and five incoming freshmen, the Hoosiers are hoping to improve on their 1-16 record from last season.
Entering only their third year of existence, the Hoosiers will be faced with fierce competition. In the Big Ten Conference alone, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State advanced to the NCAA Tournament, with Michigan winning the National Championship. The squad will also be traveling to Syracuse to take part in the Big Ten/Big East challenge, where they will face Rutgers and Villanova.
Despite their competitive schedule, the Hoosiers are looking forward to a successful year.
"After two years of developing the fundamentals and focusing on teaching the game, we are ready to change gears and place greater emphasis on competing," head coach Amy Robertson said. "This season will be no different in how we measure our success, it is always a process and not just an end result."
The field hockey team opens its season on August 31 at Oxford, Ohio where it will play Miami University.
