Meet the Indiana Football Freshmen

Bloomington, Ind. - Thiry-four freshmen took to the practice field today for their first real taste of Indiana Football. The Hoosiers practiced on the fields located next to Armstrong Stadium. The last time and Indiana Football team had their fall workouts in that location Lee Corso was the Hoosiers head coach. Improvements are currently being made to the football practice fields located next to Memorial Stadium so the Hoosiers will spend the fall on the practice fields next to Armstrong Stadium. Today features a pair of practices for the freshmen.
"Traditionally freshmen are able to play when there is an issue with the depth at a position. That is the case with many of our positions. The other key for them to play is conditioning. The game is a lot different from a conditioning standpoint at this level than it is in high school," Head Coach Gerry DiNardo said.
The group of 34 freshmen come from 12 different states and the country of Australia. Fifteen of the newcomers call Indiana home while four more come from Ohio. Illinois and Colorado are the home states of three Hoosiers while Texas, Michigan, Alabama, New York, Arizona, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida are all represented among the freshmen.
Jahkeen Gilmore, a wide receiver from Brooklyn, New York signed with the Hoosiers but is a non-qualifier and will be enrolled in class at Indiana University but under NCAA rules will be unable to practice. Bo Greer, a defensive tackle from Princeton, Indiana, is also a non-qualifier and has enrolled in a junior college with intentions of joining the Hoosiers in the future.
