Scarlet Knights Stun Indiana in Overtime

Syracuse, N.Y - The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University capitalized in overtime against the Hoosiers, 2-1. RU captured their second victory of the season, extending its record to 2-3, as the Hoosiers dropped to 1-4.
In the first half of play, the Hoosiers dominated on attack out shooting the Scarlet Knights seven to five, with six penalty corners to Rutgers two.
With 19:05 into the game sophomore Jamie Baldwin recorded her first goal of the year as she drove the ball across the circle as a RU defender deflected it into the left side of the cage.
Rutgers head coach Ann Petracco immediately called a time out to gather with her team. Whatever she said to her squad must have been inspirational as RU picked up their intensity.
On only their second penalty corner of the game, Junior Julie Speckels drove one past goalkeeper Molly Pulkrabek, with 4:15 remaining on the clock. The Hoosiers went into intermission tied, 1-1.
The intense play that Rutgers displayed at the end of the first half carried over into the second half as the Scarlet Knights tallied three penalty corners within the first 15 minutes of play.
IU came back to life with 15 minutes remaining in regulation and received their first corner of the second half. For the next eight minutes the ball stayed in Hoosier territory, but unfortunately the team was unable to capitalize.
For the remaining 2:59 of the game the Hoosiers played man down as Jamie Baldwin received a yellow card. IU remained poised and was able to hold Rutgers and send the game into overtime.
Indiana entered their first overtime of the season, as the Scarlet Knights found themselves in familiar territory. Just one game prior to tonight's match up, RU went into double overtime and then into a penalty stroke off against Fairfield. The experience shined through for RU, and only 1:34 into extra minutes, RU received a penalty stroke. This was the first stroke that goalkeeper Pulkrabek faced this season. Junior Leann Grondski faced Pulkrabek from seven yards out from the goal line and placed the ball in the lower right hand corner of the cage, putting the game to rest at 2-1.
The Hoosiers are back in action on Sunday, September 15, against Villanova University at Coyne Field in Syracuse, N.Y as the Big Ten/Big East Challenge continues.
