COMPLETE WOLVERINE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Last year marked the first year in the history of Indiana University women's golf that the Hoosiers did not win a tournament. In nine of the 12 events last year, Indiana outscored the University of Michigan only once. With that said, the Hoosiers agree that it is time for change.
Indiana opened its season at the Michigan Invitational Saturday on the tough U-of-M track, and carded rounds of 304 and 306 to take a nine-stroke lead ahead of Michigan going into the final round tomorrow.
The Hoosiers' 18-hole and 36-hole totals mark Indiana's bests in the Michigan Invitational. Indiana's previous bests were 304 and 611--both shot in 1997.
Junior Karen Dennison, last year's team scoring leader, fired a 146 (72-74) to not only lead the Cream and Crimson, but the entire field. With consistent play Sunday, the Madison, Ind., native could capture her first collegiate victory.
Dennison's classmates, Ambry Bishop and Danah Ford, also ended within the top ten with rounds of 152 (78-74) and 154 (79-75), respectively. Bishop enters the final round tied for fourth, while Ford is tied for seventh.
Senior Cara Stuckey struggled in her second round Saturday, but managed to finish tied for 14th with a 158 (75-83). Senior Adrienne Graessle is 27th with 165 (82-83) and true freshman Molly Redfearn finished tied for 39th with 170 (85-85).
On the team side, Indiana's 610 is far from a comfortable lead over Michigan's 619 (309-310). The Wolverines after all, are on their home course and struck back in the final round numerous times last season. East Carolina is in third place with 622 (307-315) followed by James Madison in fourth with 637 (318-319).
The Hoosiers will look to capture its first win of the season tomorrow as the tournament concludes with play at 8 a.m.
