Archibald, Toivonen Named to All-Tournament Team

Bloomington, IN --- Following a match between Maryland and Loyola Marymount that concluded the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md., on Saturday evening, two Indiana volleyball players were recognized by being named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore outside hitter Christina Archibald (Belleville, Ill./West) and senior libero Hillary Toivonen (Muncie, Ind./Burris) were both named to the squad after the leading the Hoosiers to a 2-1 record in the tournament, including a 3-2 upset victory over Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon. Indiana also defeated Boston College, 3-2, while falling to the undefeated Maryland Terrapins, 30-28, 30-27, 30-26 on Friday evening."Christina Archibald had great weekend but different players stepped up in every match," said head coach Katie Weismiller. "Christina was terminating no matter how many blockers were there and at times we had to just give her the ball. She wanted to terminate. She had 29 kills (against Loyola Marymount) and I thought she had more."
Versus Loyola Marymount, Archibald recorded a career-high 29 kills, with only seven errors on 58 total attempts (.379 hitting percentage). To go along with her impressive kill total, the standout sophomore also displayed her all-around abilities as she recorded 18 digs and five blocks. In three matches (13 total games), she notched 66 kills.
"Hillary played great defense throughout the tournament and really did a great job in the passing game," said Weismiller. "Because of our passing, she had a lot to do with our offense running efficiently."
Toivonen recorded 41 digs in 13 total games for the Hoosiers.
Indiana returns to action this weekend as it hosts the IU Credit Union Classic. The Hoosiers open play on Friday, September 20, with a match vs. Central Michigan at the University Gymnasium. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
