Davis to Be Honored by Links

Bloomington, Ind. - Head coach Mike Davis is one of seven local luminaries to be honored by the Indianapolis Chapter of Links on September 19. The event is being held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown with the reception to commence at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and roast to follow. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from the Indianapolis Chapter of Links.2002 marks the 20th Annual Link "Celebrity BBQ & Grille." The Links chapter has selected Mike Davis, along with six other dignified personalities, to be roasted by Amos Brown to raise money to support an array of programs. In its 20-year existence, the "BBQ & Grille" has allowed the Indianapolis Chapter of Links to reinvest $165,000 in numerous community efforts, including the Center for Leadership Development, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Urban League. This year's roast will benefit the Indianapolis Black Alumni Council. The IBAC is comprised of local graduates of historically black colleges.
Davis was selected to be roasted in light of the theme for the 2002 "BBQ & Grille" - "Against the Odds." Link member and co-chairperson for the event Judy Waugh was enthusiastic in explaining how Davis was selected as a roastee for this year's event.
"With the theme for the event this year and the success that Coach Davis and the team enjoyed this past season, we felt that he was a good representative for our cause," said Waugh.
The Links, Inc. is a women's volunteer service organization committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community at-large. The organization has more than 10,500 members in 250 chapters around the world. The Indianapolis Chapter of Links was founded in 1951 and has continually given back to the community with the help of fundraisers such as the "Celebrity BBQ & Grille."
