Carmichael Meets Up With Former Player at Solheim Cup

For Indiana University women's golf coach Sam Carmichael, he has seen many good players throughout his 21 years here at IU. He has guided Wicoff and Carney to All-America honors, and won a total of seven Big Ten Championships with players like DeKraay and Buzminski.
Perhaps the one golfer throughout the two-decade span of Carmichael's tenure that has gone on to find the most success in golf is Michele Redman.
Redman is currently among 12 other LPGA stars that make up Team USA for this weekend's Solheim Cup at Interlachen Country Club in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Solheim Cup, a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play event sponsored by Karsten Manufacturing, features the top U.S.-born players from the LPGA and the top European-born players from the Ladies European Tour.
Throughout Redman's professional career, she has always felt very comfortable and at ease in the company of Carmichael. Already this year at the U.S. open, Redman extended an invitation to her former coach to fly out to Kansas and help her prepare for the major.
The Hoosier coach was more than pleased when he again received a call from Redman, inviting him up to Minnesota this weekend for the Solheim Cup.
Carmichael arrived on Wednesday and was thrilled to meet up with Redman on the course.
"It was really exciting to see Michele today," said Carmichael. "I found her on the practice tee all decked out in her red-white-and-blue. The Donald Ross-designed golf course and the overall atmosphere up here is unbelievable."
Carmichael went on to watch her play nine holes and worked on a couple of shots with her on the course. Following the short practice round, the Hoosier coach hit the practice tee with his former player and worked out a couple of kinks in her swing for about 40 minutes.
"I felt that after her practice round today, we needed to correct or improve some of the elements of her swing," said Carmichael. "She's a professional golfer though, and both of us know that she has a really good golf swing. Sometimes you just have to fix little things in the swing to get better, and that's what we did today."
