In the Polls
The Hoosier women's team is ranked tied with Rice for No. 8 in Trackwire's preseason poll and men's team is No. 16. Indiana is only Big Ten School with both its men's and women's squad in the top 25 to start the year.
The Michigan men's team is tied for 25th in the poll.
Returning Indoor All-Americans
Women's: Seniors Rachelle Boone and Danielle Carruthers both attained All-America status during the 2002 Indoor Season. Boone finished second in the 200m and fifth in the 60m at the NCAA Championships. Carruthers was the runner-up in the 60m hurdles and the sixth-place finisher in the 60m at the NCAAs. During her three-year career Boone has captured a combined six Big Ten titles and eight All-America honors. Carruthers also has six conference titles and is a five-time All-American.
Men's: On the men's side, three Indoor All-Americans return for the Hoosiers, including a pair of freshmen last season. By way of a fourth-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships, Aarik Wilson earned All-America status. John Jefferson finished 10th in The Mile at the Indoor
Championships for All-America honors. Senior Hassan Reddick was also an Indoor All-American in the triple jump after coming in ninth at the NCAA meet.
The Coaches
Women's: Randy Heisler is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the women's track and field program and his 14 overall at Indiana. Since 1999, the Hoosiers have finished in the top four in three of the last four Big Ten Indoor Championships and captured the conference title at both the 2000 and 2001 outdoor meet. In addition, the Hoosiers finished second, by just one point at last season's meet.
Men's: Marshall Goss is beginning his 20th year with Hoosier track and field program and his fifth season as the head coach of the men's program. Goss has coached 22 All-Big Ten selections, 11 Big Ten Champions and eight All-Americans in his tenure as head coach. He has coaching assignments in all events with emphasis in the pole vault and hurdles for both the men's and women's teams.
Next Up
The Indiana track teams will hit the road again next weekend as they take on intra-state rival Purdue in West Lafayette, Saturday, Jan. 25.
