No. 18 IU to Face No. 8 Illinois

Bloomington, Ind. - The No. 18/17 (AP/Coaches) Indiana Hoosiers (12-3, 2-1) host eighth-ranked Illinois (12-2, 2-1) on Saturday, Jan. 18. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith will call all the action on the statewide IU Radio Network, and the Illinois game will be televised by CBS (Verne Lundquist and Billy Packer).

 Indiana holds a 77-70 lead in the all-time series with the Illini and a 46-26 advantage in games played at home. Last season they split a pair of regular season games with each team protecting its home court. IU prevailed in Bloomington, 88-57, on Jan. 26, 2002, while Illinois won in Champaign, 70-62, on Feb. 26.

 Indiana shot a season-high .625 from the floor and held Northwestern to a season-low 16 rebounds in Wednesday's 71-57 Hoosier triumph.

 Indiana's 12-3 start is its best 15 game record since the 1998-99 and 1999-00 clubs each started 13-2.

 Tom Coverdale became the 37th member of Indiana's 1,000 career point club on Wednesday, and Jeff Newton is 95 points shy of 1,000 for his career. When Newton reaches 1,000 points, it will mark the first time since 1993-94 (Alan Henderson and Brian Evans) and the eighth time in school history that two Hoosiers have scored their respective 1,000th career point in the same season.

 National Freshman of the Year candidate Bracey Wright missed the Northwestern game due to a recurring back injury and is currently listed as day-to-day. He is the fifth-leading freshman scorer in the nation (19.1 ppg)

 With Mike Davis at the helm of the Hoosier program, IU is 15-10 against ranked opponents. The Hoosiers have won five of their last seven games against Top 10 foes.

 Kyle Hornsby followed a Jan. 11 scoreless effort against Ohio State with a career-high 19-point performance (five three-pointers) against Northwestern on Jan. 15.

 Coverdale became the 37th member of Indiana's prestigious 1,000 point club.

 When Tom Coverdale dished out 10 assists against Northwestern, it marked the third double-digit assist performance of his career. He is tied for third in school history in career double digit assist outings.
