2003 Schedule Announced

Bloomington, Ind. - The 2003 Indiana University Football schedule will include six home games and the Hoosiers will face one team for the first time in history, another they have not faced in 77 years and another they have not played against in over two decades. In addition, the traditional rivalries against the likes of Kentucky, Ohio State and Purdue will continue, and all three at Memorial Stadium.
Indiana opens its season with back-to-back road trips at Connecticut on August 30 and Washington on September 6. The Hoosiers make their home debut on September 13 against Indiana State and remain at home on September 20 to face Kentucky. The match-up against Connecticut marks the first time in school history that the Hoosiers have faced the Huskies. The trip to Washington marks the first contest against the Pac-10 foe since 1978. The home opener against Indiana State is the first game between these two schools since 1925 when IU posted a 31-0 victory. Indiana State returns to Bloomington in 2007. There is nothing new about Kentucky as the Hoosiers and Wildcats have met in each of the last 16 seasons.
The Hoosiers begin Big Ten play on September 27 at Michigan followed up by a road trip to Michigan State on October 4. Indiana welcomes Northwestern to Memorial Stadium for Homecoming on October 11 and after an off week entertains the defending national champions, Ohio State on October 25. Minnesota returns to the Indiana schedule for the first time since 2000 as the Hoosiers travel to Minneapolis on November 1. The Hoosiers play host to Illinois on November 8 before heading to Penn State on November 15. Indiana closes out its regular season on November 22 against Purdue at Memorial Stadium as the two teams will meet for the 106th time.
"We believe this is going to be an exciting home season for IU fans," Interim Director of Athletics Terry Clapacs said. "We have our traditional rivals coming in Kentucky and Purdue as well as the defending national champion in Ohio State. We also have a new in-state opponent in Indiana State. Illinois will be here in addition to our homecoming game against Northwestern on October 11. We are looking forward to Coach DiNardo's second year in Bloomington. It promises to be a great season."
