Indiana Competes at Purdue This Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men’s and women’s track and field teams hit the road for their second meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they battle intra-state rival Purdue and Big Ten foe Ohio State in West Lafayette. The meet is set for a 9: 30 a.m. start at Lambert Fieldhouse. (See meet schedule at the bottom of the page)
At last season's women's Big Ten Indoor Meet, Indiana was the runner-up. Purdue and Ohio State finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In The Polls
The Hoosier women’s team is ranked No. 9 in Trackwire’s in this week’s Trackwire 25 Power Rankings. The IU men’s team has moved up two spots to No. 14 this week. The Purdue men’s team is ranked one spot in front of the Hoosiers at No. 13.
Once again, Indiana is only Big Ten School with both its men’s and women’s squad in the top 25.

Last Time Out
In the season opener at Michigan, the men’s team captured a win over Michigan, Kent State and Michigan State. The Hoosiers totaled 172 points to beat the host Wolverines by 15 points.
On the women’s side, Indiana finished second to UM. Indiana scored 151.50 points to top Kent State (116) and Michigan State (82.5).
Doubling Up
Senior Rachelle Boone and sophomore Aarik Wilson were both double winners last Saturday at Michigan. Boone took top honors in the 60m (7.46) and the 200m (24.31). Wilson finished first in both the long jump (7.45m./24-05.50) and the triple jump. In the triple, his jump of 52-03.25 exceeded the NCAA Provisional mark (51-02.25).
Provisional Starts
In her very first outing of the season, senior Danielle Carruthers ran an 8.33 in the 60m hurdles to take the win at the Michigan Quad. Her time met the NCAA Provisional mark. Last season, Carruthers’ best outing in the 60h was a time of 7.92 at the USTCA Challenge on Feb. 8, 2002.
Aarik Wilson also turned in a provisional performance in the triple jump with a mark of 15.93m (52-03.25).
Chesnut Making Her Mark
In her first ever outing as a Hoosier, Lauren Chesnut made an impact. Chesnut, a junior transfer from George Mason., was the winner in the triple jump with a leap of 12.58m (41-03.25) last weekend at the Michigan Quad. She also finished fifth long jump.
Indiana Women To Host Big Tens
IU will host the 2003 Big Ten Women’s Indoor Championships. The meet is set for March 1 and 2 at the Harry C. Gladstein Fieldhouse on the Indiana campus.
Next Up
Both the men's and women's teams compete at Illinois next Saturday, Feb. 1, in a meet against the Ilini and a pair of teams from the Big 12 Conference, Baylor and Missouri.
