IU Falls to Purdue on the Road

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers battled through its first of a four-game road swing as IU's three-game winning streak was snapped by intrastate rival Purdue, 69-47 in the Boilermakers' Mackey Arena Saturday afternoon.

The contest began on a high-note for IU as A.J. Moye scored three of his 11-points on the first shot of the game on an assist from Tom Coverdale. Within 20 seconds, Purdue had gotten on the scoreboard and two and a half minutes into the game the rivals were locked at seven points each.

Purdue went on a 13-0 run to put the Hoosiers down by 18 points midway through the first half. Indiana was unable to recover as the crowd and the Boilermakers held onto their lead, taking a 12 point advantage into halftime. The Hoosiers had just two players with more than one basket from the field in the first half. Indiana was held to just 22 percent from beyond the arc in the first half and just 15 percent for the game.

Coverdale led all IU scorers with 13 points, his first double-digit performance in three games and is now the 35th leading scorer in Hoosier history. Moye added 11 points. Jeff Newton led Indiana in rebounds with nine, chipping in seven points.

The Boilermakers extend their home winning streak to 10 games on Keady Court, improving their record to 12-4, 4-1 in Big Ten play while the Hoosiers fall to 14-4, 4-2 in the conference.

Once again, freshman Bracey Wright's presence and his 19 points per game were absent from the Hoosier lineup as he remains sidelined with a recurring back injury.

The Hoosiers continue on the road when they face the Michigan State Spartans at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich. on Jan. 28. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN.
