BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Nine of the last 12 Indiana-Ohio State contests played in Columbus have been decided by six points or less, and four of those were by four points or less.Jeff Newton, the only Big Ten player averaging a double-double (14.2 ppg and 10.2 rpg) has a league-leading eight double-doubles. All of these performances have occured in the last 10 games. He is on pace to become the 14th different player in Indiana history to average a double-double. Newton is also six blocks shy of becoming the second player in Indiana history with 200 in his career.
National Freshman of the Year candidate Bracey Wright is the only Hoosier to score in double figures in every game this year. He has opened his career with 13 straight double-digit performances. If he scores at least 10 points at Ohio State, he will break Calbert Cheaney's school record (13 in 1989-90) for best freshman debut double figure scoring streak.
Although Tom Coverdale's consecutive free throw streak (20) came to an end against Penn State, he is now 22 points shy of 1,000 for his career. He would become the 37th Hoosier to reach this plateau.
With the 78-65 win over Penn State, that marked the first time since Jan. 23-31, 2002 and the third time in the Mike Davis Era that IU has posted three straight victories by double digits.
