Grabavoy, Nolly Earn Weekly Honors (10-14-03)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the second time this season, Indiana juniors Ned Grabavoy and Jay Nolly were named Big Ten Conference Players of the Week for the period ending Oct. 12, the league office announced on Monday. Nolly was selected the Defensive Player of the Week while Grabavoy shared Offensive Player of the Week with Michigan's Knox Cameron. In addition, College Soccer News (www.collegesoccernews.com) tabbed Grabavoy as its choice for National Player of the Week.
Grabavoy, who was named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list during the preseason, totaled seven points on three goals and an assist in Indiana's pair of Big Ten road victories over the weekend. Against Wisconsin on Friday, he assisted on IU's second goal of the match and tallied goal number three. At Northwestern, Grabavoy converted a pair of goals, including the the game-winner. The New Lenox, Ill., product leads IU with 20 points on the season and has already matched his season total from 2002. Grabavoy also leads all Big Ten players with 10 points and four goals in conference games. This is the third time in his career that Grabavoy has picked up Big Ten Offensive Player-of the-Week accolades.
Nolly posted back-to-back shutouts against against Wisconsin and Northwestern en route to the third weekly conference honor of his career. The Littleton, Colo., native also collected six saves in the pair of matches and lowered his Big Ten-best (all games) goals-against average to 0.76. Nolly has four shutouts to his credit this season and 12 in his Hoosier career.
After its two victories over the weekend, Indiana sits atop the Big Ten Conference standings with a 3-0-1 record. The Hoosiers are the only Big Ten team without a loss in conference. IU is 5-3-4 overall heading into Wednesday's non-conference match with IUPUI. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
