Indiana Heads To The Landfall Tradition

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team concludes its fall tournament schedule at the 2003 Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 2.
The 54-hole event will field 12 teams - Arkansas, Florida State, Furman, Indiana, Louisville, New Mexico, North Carolina-Wilmington, Penn State, Tulane, Tulsa, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Head coach Sam Carmichael hopes to end the fall on a positive note.
"The Landfall Tradition is played on an excellent golf course, and the competition will be good with teams from all over the country. We hope to conclude our fall season with a positive performance as we head into the off season."
The first round begins Friday at 8:00 a.m.
Tournament Information
The Indiana University women's golf team will compete in its final tournament of the fall at the 2003 Landfall Tradition. The Country Club of Landfall will host the event Oct. 31-Nov. 2, and it will be held on the Jack Nickaus Course, (par 72 and a yardage of 6,115 yards).
The 54-hole event will field 12 teams - Arkansas, Florida State, Furman, Indiana, Louisville, New Mexico, North Carolina-Wilmington, Penn State, Tulane, Tulsa, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Tulsa is the defending Landfall Tradition champion, with a 893 in 2002.
The tournament begins Friday with the first round at 8:00 a.m. The second round will be played on Saturday at 8:00. The final round will begin Sunday at 8:00 a.m. All rounds will be tee times.
The Starting Five
Seniors Karen Dennison and Danah Ford, junior Bethany Brunner and sophomores Lissa Putnam and Molly Redfearn will represent Indiana in the Landfall Tradition.
Tournament Format
Scoring for the Landfall Tradition will be five players with the low four scores from each round counting toward the team overall total.
Tournament Results
Results will be placed on the UNC-Wilmington website, UNCWsports.com, immediately following the completion of each round.

Indiana Coach Sam Carmichael: "We wanted to play in four events this fall, and play late into the fall season. The Landfall Tradition gives us that opportunity. Hoosiers to Watch
Senior Karen Dennison won her first individual title of the year at the Shootout-at-the-Legends with a 213 (72-72-69). It was her fifth overall title in her career.
Senior Danah Ford finished tied for fourth at the Shootout-at-the-Legends with a 73-70-74-217. Her round of 70 tied her low 18-hole total, the 143 set a new low 36-hole total and the 217 is a new low 54-hole total.
Junior Bethany Brunner returns to the lineup after not traveling to the Shootout-at-the Legends. In her last tournament, the Lady Northern, she finished with a 250 (82-86-82).
Sophomore Lissa Putnam rallied from an opening round 85 at the Shootout-at-the-Legends to shoot a 234 (85-73-76).
Sophomore Molly Redfearn finished tied for 15th at the Shootout-at-the-Legends with a 221 (72-73-76). She set new lows for her 18, 36 and 54-hole totals. She also set a new mark for her best finish.
A Ranked Field
When the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings came out, Indiana had moved to No. 33 after its second place performance at the Shootout-at-the-Legends.
Joining Indiana in the Landfall Tradition will be six other teams ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. New Mexico leads the field at No. 5, followed by , Tulsa at No. 17, Tulane at No. 18, Furman at No. 19, Arkansas at No. 26 and Florida State at No. 35.
Hoosier Hopefuls
Indiana's depth is one of its biggest assets in 2003-2004
Several Hoosiers to watch for are seniors Ambry Bishop and Mary Lidester, junior Bethany Brunner, and sophomore Lissa Putnam.
Bishop traveled to the first three tournament this fall for the Hoosiers before sitting out the Landfall Tradition. In each tournament this fall, Bishop continued to lower her 54-hole totals. Bishop looks to return to the links for Indiana as the spring season gets under way.
Lidester looked to enter the season with a higher level consistency. She split tournament time with Molly Redfearn last year and looks to continue to improve her game, as competition for traveling spots on the Hoosier squad is sure to heat up. She traveling to the Shootout-at-the-Legends as an individual where she finished tied for 31st with a 227 (74-77-76). She looks to return to the traveling squad as spring arrives.
Brunner qualified for the season-opening Mary Fossum Invitational, where she shot a 246 to finish tied for 56th, and Lady Northern Invitational, where she finished tied for 75th at 250. She sat out the Shootout-at-the-Legends, but returns to the lineup for the Landfall Tradition.
Putnam played well in qualifying, and earned a spot on the traveling team for the Lady Northern. Her rounds of 235 (75-79-81) placed her in a tie for 31st, and earned her a spot on the traveling team to the Shootout-at-the-Legends where she finished tied for 56th with a 234 (85-73-76).
