Daugherty Named Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Bloomington, Ind.— Senior goalkeeper Shaunna Daugherty has been named the women’s soccer Big Ten Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 5. Daugherty earned the honor after a complete-game shutout against Iowa and 45 minutes of flawless goalkeeping against Marshall last week.
Daugherty, an Aurora, Ill. native, becomes the fourth Hoosier ever to earn Big Ten Player of the Week accolades. The last Hoosier to receive this honor was senior Emily Hotz, who was recognized during the week of Nov. 5, 2001.
Daugherty has played in nine of the Hoosiers’ 11 games so far this season, starting seven of them. This season, Daugherty has tallied 13 total saves and has a goals against average of 0.76.
Head coach Mick Lyon was pleased to hear of Daugherty’s recognition.
“Shaunna had a fantastic week for us,” said Lyon. “She really was the difference in the Iowa game between us winning or tying. It is always an honor to see our players receive such acknowledgement. ”
The Hoosiers are back in action when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to take on the Wolverines, Friday at 4 p.m. Following Friday’s game the Hoosiers will stay in Michigan to play the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday at noon.
