Recht Falls in ITA Tournament; Fall Season Continues

Men's and Women's Tennis Fall Season Continues

Bloomington, Ind.— Indiana junior men’s tennis player Ryan Recht, ranked No. 93 in the ITA preseason rankings, fell to Steve Mitchell of Alabama, 7-5; 6-2 in the ITA/Icy Hot All American Championships held in Chattanooga Tenn. on Oct. 7.
Recht qualified to participate in the ITA/Icy Hot All-American Championships after taking a second-place finish during the ITA Summer Nationals in Bloomington, Ind.
Indiana junior Jakub Praibis, who also stands in the ITA rankings at No. 70 qualified for this tournament as well, but was unable to attend due to a shoulder injury.
The Hoosiers continue with their fall season when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take part in the Purdue Invitational, Oct. 18-19.
In Indiana women’s tennis action, the Hoosiers hosted its annual Hoosier Classic this past weekend and six IU players won in the singles matches.
Freshman Laura McGaffigan won flight C singles, defeating Iowa’s Hillary Mintz 6-2, 5-7 (8).
Seniors Martina Grimm and Karie Schlukebir, junior Dora Vastag and freshmen Kara Zeder and Cecile Perton also picked up singles victories.
In the ITA preseason doubles rankings, seniors Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran are ranked No. 28.
Indiana’s next tournament is the ITA Midwest Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. Oct. 23-28.
