Hoosiers Upend Iowa, 3-1

Box ScoreIowa City, Iowa - The Indiana volleyball team earned its first road victory of the season and second consecutive victory, defeating Iowa 28-30, 30-26, 30-26, 30-27. IU improves to 11-15 on the season and 4-11 in the Big Ten, while Iowa falls to 5-20 overall and 0-15 in the Big Ten.
"It was a great team effort," said Indiana head coach Katie Weismiller. "We had 20 team blocks. We did a nice job blocking and our passing was very, very good."
Leading the way for the Hoosiers was junior Christina Archibald, who recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs. Senior Melissa Brewer ended the evening with a team season-high 10 block assists.
Defensively, four Hoosiers corralled ten-plus digs. Junior Beth Heimann (17 digs), freshman Lindsay Cochrane (13 digs), Archibald, and junior Victoria Zimmerman (11 digs) led IU on the defensive end.
Overall, Indiana held the Hawkeyes to a .111 hitting percentage and compiled a season-best 34 block assists, surpassing the season-high 32 the team notched against Ohio State last weekend.
After dropping game one, 30-28, IU stormed back with three straight victories to close out the match. In game two, the Hoosiers held the lead the entire game en route to a 30-26 victory. Iowa evened the match at 22-22, but kills by Brewer and Archibald helped Indiana close out the game.
The third game saw IU jump out to an early 14-8 lead and hang on for a 30-26 victory. Archibald led the squad with five kills with freshman Tasha Arsenych adding four kills on five attempts.
Indiana closed out the match with a 30-27 victory in game four. The teams played to 5-5, 10-10 and 15-15 ties, before the Hoosiers used a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. Iowa closed the gap to 22-21, but IU would not let the Hawkeyes even the score. Indiana went on another 5-1 run and never looked back on its way to the victory.
Additionally, junior Katie Pollom contributed 14 kills, three block solos and seven block assists and Arsenych finished with nine assists, six block assists, four kills and three digs.
The Hoosiers return to the court Saturday, Nov. 15 against No. 24 Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. IU beat the Gophers in the Big Ten opener, 3-0, on Sept. 26.
