Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana University volleyball standout Melissa Brewer was selected honorable mention All-Big Ten. This marks the second straight season the senior has been recognized by the conference after being selected to the first team last season.
"Being recognized by the Big Ten is a great accomplishment," said Indiana head coach Katie Weismiller. "Melissa had an incredible career. She rewrote the record books and achieved so much academically. We were proud to have her as part of this program the last four years."
The Bloomington, Ind., native concluded one of the most successful careers in IU history as the Hoosiers all-time leader with 1,547 career kills and 469 block assists. Additionally, she finished her four years second on the all-time list with 516 total blocks, just five behind former Hoosier great Julie Goedde. Brewer also sits third all-time with a .277 career hitting percentage and seventh with 47 career block solos.
This season alone, Brewer finished third on the school's single-season list with a .311 hitting percentage, fourth with 128 block assists and fifth with 138 total blocks.
The senior middle blocker was also recognized for her academic excellence, earning a spot on the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District V Second Team. It was the third straight year she received the honor after making the first team the previous two seasons.
