Hoosiers Fall to Wisconsin

Madison, Wis. - The Hoosiers fell to the Wisconsin Badgers this afternoon, 71-59. Indiana drops to 15-9, 5-6 in Big Ten play as Wisconsin improves to 18-5, 8-3 in league games. IU has not won in Madison, Wisc., since 1998.A.J. Moye and Marshall Strickland scored 13 of the first 15 Hoosier points on their way to a 29-21 halftime lead. Indiana shot 50 percent from the floor in the first stanza, sinking 13 field goals.
The Badgers started the second half shooting four-for-four from the floor, scoring 11 unanswered points to take the lead over the Hoosiers for the first time since the opening basket. Wisconsin never gave up its lead, out-shooting the Hoosiers in second half play, 58 percent to Indiana's 38.7 percent.
Jeff Newton led the Hoosiers with his 10th double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. This is the first time in Newton's career that he has scored 20 or more points in the three consecutive games.
Strickland scored a career-high 17 points for Indiana, as Moye recorded nine points, six of which came in the first 4:16 of the game.
Wisconsin had four players in double digits. Kirk Penney led the Badgers with 22 points, Mike Wilkinson followed with 16 and Freddie Owens and Devin Harris each added 12 points.
The Hoosiers won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Wisconsin 35-30. This is the first time this season IU has lost when they have out-rebounded their opponent.
The Hoosiers are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 19, against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa. Game time is set for 9:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN Plus.
