IU Continues Road Trip in Iowa

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana (15-9, 5-6) continues its second three-game road trip of the season when it visits Iowa (12-8, 4-5) on Feb. 19 at 9:00 p.m. EST at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Larry Morgan and John Laskowski will be on the call for ESPN Plus Local, as will Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith on the statewide Indiana Basketball Radio Network.

Despite an eight-point halftime lead at big Ten co-leader Wisconsin on Feb. 15, Indiana shot 38.7 percent from the floor in the second half and suffered a 71-59 loss. Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Jeff Newton had his second straight double-double (20 points, 12 rebounds) and 10th of the season. Freshman guard Marshall Strickland made his third start of the season and poured in a career-high 17 points. The Hoosiers also outboarded the league's second-best rebounding team (35-30).

The Hoosiers are still in search of their first league road victory of the season. This marks the first time since 1978-79 that IU has failed to win its first league road game by Feb. 1. Indiana owns an 87-63 lead in its all-time series with Iowa, including four of the last six games.

 Indiana senior forward Jeff Newton is the Big Ten Conference Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 16. Newton shares the honor with Wisconsin senior guard Kirk Penney.

 Newton has been the Hoosiers' most consistent performer over the last three games, averaging 21.3 points and nine rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the floor. For the past week, the 6-9 senior forward averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game en route to his league-leading ninth and 10th double-doubles of the season. Newton has twice as many double-doubles as any other league player after posting just one double-double in his first three seasons in Bloomington. Newton's 10 double-doubles are the most by a Hoosier since Kirk Haston had 13 in 2000-01.

 Newton entered this year shooting 61 percent from the free throw line for his career, but he has hit 17 of his last 20 and 28 of his last 33 from the charity stripe.

 Senior guard Tom Coverdale may be fifth on Indiana's career assist list (450), but the Feb. 15 loss at Wisconsin marked the first time in 91 games that the senior failed to dish out at least one assist.

 Junior swingman A.J. Moye has been one of Indiana's most consistent players over the last five games. During this stretch, he has made 14 of 21 field goals (.667) and averaged seven points and five rebounds per game.

 In Mike Davis' first two years as head coach, Indiana allowed just two teams to hit 50 percent or better from the floor (Kentucky on Dec. 22, 2000 and at Minnesota on Feb. 2, 2002). Four teams have already hit 50 percent or better from the floor against Indiana this season.
