Bloomington, Ind. -Coach Davis
"I was disappointed when I was watching the film from the Illinois game. The last several possessions in the first half we didn't do anything. The score was like 31-28 and it ended up being 39-30, it really hurt, so we need to keep our composure and stay strong. But that was a game that we played like we didn't think we could win and when you play like that it is tough to win."
What have you guys talked about since then?
"We talk about winning three games. But we need to take it one game at a time."
What are some of the keys to winning the next couple of games?
"Tough in spirit, enthusiasm, intensity, all of those words. It is very important."
Is your morale still pretty good?
"It's good. I thought we had a good day today except at the very end it started to drop off a little bit but at the beginning it was really good. Guys were really hustling and working hard. But the longer this team goes, they begin to drop off. I don't really care for that."
Regarding two home games
"These games are very important, extremely important. We are sitting in the same seating that we were in my first year. We had 15 wins and we played Wisconsin here and Minnesota here and we won big and then we went over to Purdue and won that one and it gave us momentum heading into the Big Ten Tournament where we ended up playing in the championship game. So we sit here today in the same situatio, except that we are one game up. The thing I really like about my teams is that we have always gotten better late in the season and I just hope that we keep our heads up. That is one of the biggest problems with this team, is keeping their spirits up."
Do you think that they team is mentally drained?
"I think that the boys are mentally drained. I am not mentally drained. I mean the look in their eyes, it hasn't been the same since Maui. But we were able to win games after that but it just wasn't the same. Even though we won eight games, we weren't really playing with a lot of passion or with the same passion that we had in Maui. I see a difference now, I really do. Today at the beginning of practice it was really spirited. It only takes one game and this is the first time in a while that we have had two home games in a row."
