Hoosiers Face Michigan State

Bloomington, Ind. - Amidst its first four-game losing streak in 18 years, the Indiana Hoosiers (14-7, 4-4) return home to face Michigan State (12-8, 4-4) on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN (Dave Barnett and Jay Bilas) as part of the network's Rivalry Week and can also be heard on the statewide Indiana Basketball Radio Network (Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith) as well as Westwood One (Tony Roberts and Tom Penders).Throughout the season, IU coach Mike Davis has emphasized the importance of taking care of business at home during league play. That message is underscored by the fact that the Hoosiers are putting a 10-game home winning streak on the line.
IU is looking to bounce back from a 74-61 loss at Northwestern on Feb. 5. The loss snapped a 26-game series winning streak for the Hoosiers, as the Wildcats prevailed for the first time since Jan. 11, 1988, a 66-64 decision in Evanston. The loss also marked the first time since Feb. 19-22, 2000 that Indiana had suffered consecutive double-digit setbacks. IU was outrebounded, 38-31 and shot a season-low 55.6 percent from the free throw line.
• Indiana is looking to snap its first four-game losing streak since 1984-85 while maintaining a 10-game home winning streak
• In three of Indiana's last four games, the Hoosiers have endured one five-plus minute drought without a field goal.
• Senior forward Jeff Newton is 13 points shy of becoming the 38th member of IU's 1,000 career point club. Teammate Tom Coverdale joined the club on Jan. 15 against Northwestern, so it will mark the first time since 1993-94 (Alan Henderson and Brian Evans) and the eighth time in school history that two Hoosiers cracked 1,000 points in the same season.
• With eight more assists and six more three-pointers, Coverdale will become the first player in IU history with 1,000 career points, 450 assists and 175 threes.
• In 14 Indiana wins, Newton and junior center George Leach have combined to average 17.8 rebounds per game. In the seven setbacks, they have collectively averaged 11.2 boards per game.
