Auburn Match Cancelled; Hoosiers Continue Rankings Climb
Auburn, Alabama- The Indiana men's tennis team traveled to Auburn for a battle of top 25 teams. Mother nature did her part to make sure the match up did not happen and caused the cancellation of the match due to rain."To come all this way to play a top 25 team and have it rained out is disappointing," Indiana interim head coach Matt Pledger said. "It has made our spring break trip miserable with all the rain."
The boost for the Hoosiers came earlier in the day when the new rankings were released. The Omni Hotels ITA tennis poll ranked the Hoosiers 21st. The announcement was received with excitement from both Pledger and his players.
"I just have to give a lot of credit to these guys especially with the circumstances of season," Pledger said. "I have just tried to stay positive and keep the guys motivated. It is a great accomplishment for this team, and we want to keep it going. We want to have the best season in IU men's tennis history. I am incredibly proud of these guys."
The Hoosiers will look for better fortunes Friday when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to battle Georgia Tech. The match is scheduled to carry a 2:00 p.m. start time. Georgia Tech carries the 24th ranking and a 9-3 overall record. Roger Anderson is the top Yellow Jacket player as he is ranked 39th. Scott Schnugg is the other ranked Georgia Tech player at No. 69.
