IU Falls to No. 7 LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 13th-ranked Indiana women's water polo team fell in its final game of its Spring Break trip, losing to No. 7 Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles Thursday, 12-3.
The Hoosiers (16-8) were dominated throughout the day, falling behind 11-0 to start the game. Indiana did not score until the 5:59 mark of the final period, as sophomore Krista Peterson found the back of the net on an assist by freshman Emily Schmitt.
Schmitt's defender would be called for a 4-meter penalty at 3:17, resulting in the Hoosiers second score of the game, a 4-meter goal by Kristin Stanford.
The Hoosiers final goal was also scored off a 4-meter penalty, but from a foul that was not committed by a player in the pool. LMU entered seven field players-one too many-with 1:00 remaining in the game, forcing game officials to penalize the Lions.
Junior Melissa Pietras converted the penalty shot for the final goal between both teams in the game.
"It's the end of a long week for us, but we just flat out didn't play well today," said Indiana head coach Barry King.
As a team, IU was just 3-of-22 from the field, committing nine turnovers and was called for seven kickouts. Sophomore Jessica Goldner allowed all 12 goals, while stopping 10 of the Lions 27 shots.
Indiana returns to Bloomington on Friday, and will next compete at the second of two CWPA Conference Weekends in Washington, Pa. The Hoosiers, who are 3-1 in conference play, will square off against Penn State-Behrend, Slippery Rock, Gannon and Grove City.
