INDIANA COACH'S QUOTES

HEAD COACH Mike Davis

General Comments:
"Ben Howland's a great basketball coach. When you can get your players to play exactly the way the game is supposed to be played, that means you're a great basketball coach. We played Kentucky this year, we played Illinois, we played some really good basketball teams, but we hadn't played a team like that all year. They were under control the whole game, never waste any motion.

"They execute everything and they're unselfish. It doesn't matter who scores and they make passes to the open player. Defensively, they always help each other and they're going to make every play tough on you. If you're not strong with the basketball, they will take it from you. If you throw a bad pass, they will steal it."

On the play of Indiana:
"The thing I really like about Pitt's team is they're playing the way Ben is coaching and my guys don't play that way. I told them after the game, this is the most selfish team I've been around from the standpoint of not executing what you try to teach them from day one. When you play a really good team, that is when you get exposed. When you play a bad team and a team that is poorly coached, you can do bad things and get away with it."

On unselfish play of Pittsburgh
"This team is a team that understands how to play and they play the way they're coached. My team hasn't done that in a long time."

On coaching Tom Coverdale:
"It's been a great pleasure to coach Tom Coverdale. Tom had a slump this year for about a month. Other than that, he played his heart out. Some nights without Tom Coverdale, we probably wouldn't have played well at all. You just need guys on your team who believe in you as a coach and when they believe in you as a coach, it doesn't matter what anyone else says."
