March 26, 2003
Bloomington, Ind. -The Indiana field hockey team will be hosting Hoosier Sevens, a 7 v 7 tournament in Mellencamp Pavilion on Saturday, March 29. The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at approximately 3:00 p.m.
The Hoosiers began spring training in early February with goals of growing stronger mentally and physically on the field. Training in the off-season has become common and almost essential in order to be able to compete at such a high level of competition in any sport. The IU field hockey team is working hard and is determined to make the most of its spring training.
According to NCAA regulations, Division I field hockey programs are only permitted five days of competition during the spring season. IU has already competed in one tournament, the Ball State Indoor Tournament, this spring and looks forward to its final four dates of competition, which are as follows:
March 29 - Hoosier Sevens
April 12 - University of Louisville 7 v 7 Tournament
April 13 - 11 v 11 Scrimmage at the University of Louisville
April 19 - Open Scrimmage at Mellencamp Pavilion
Indiana will play host to Louisville, Ball State, Miami University (Ohio), Dayton Club and IU club this weekend. The rules of the tournament will be the same as outdoor rules except the field dimensions will smaller. The Mellencamp field will be split width wise, creating two fields for competition.
