Indiana Tops PSU-Behrend

WASHINGTON, Pa. - In the first game of its second of two CWPA Conference Weekends, the Indiana University women's water polo team defeated Penn State-Behrend, 15-3 on Saturday.

The 14th-ranked Hoosiers (17-8, 4-1) overpowered the Lions throughout the day, taking a 10-1 lead at halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Goldner retired after three quarters, allowing junior Kristy Streefkerk to take to the cage for the final seven minutes.

Goldner saved 6-of-10 shots on the day, allowing two goals, while Streefkerk allowed the lone shot she saw, for the Lions' final goal with just nine seconds left in the game.

On the offensive attack for Indiana, scoring was widespread with six Hoosiers leading the way with two goals each. Jamie Marley, Bridget McKeon, Krista Peterson, Kristin Stanford, Courtney Thom and Ginger Wang each netted a pair for Indiana, while Marley also led the squad with three assists. Senior Sarah Butler recorded four steals for IU as well.

For the game, IU was 15-of-21 scoring, with nine assists and 19 steals.

Indiana will play its second of four conference games this weekend, today at 5:30 p.m. ET, against Slippery Rock.

CWPA CONFERENCE WEEKEND #2 NOTEBOOK

 Senior Kristin Stanford scored two goals against Penn State-Behrend Saturday, leaving her just 10 goals shy of breaking the single-season school record for scoring. In 2002, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native broke the previous school record, which she set in 2001, with 66 goals this past year.

 In the past eight games, senior Jamie Marley has been one of the most productive Hoosiers in the pool. She has now scored on 9-of-15 shots, while recording seven assists and five steals as well.

 Freshmen Courtney Livak and Clare Meadows will most likely sit out the entire CWPA Weekend with injuries. Both Hoosiers have been sidelined with soreness in their shoulders. Also, freshman Courtney Thom jammed her finger against Penn State-Behrend and will not play against Slipper Rock Saturday evening.

 Hoosier head coach Barry King won the 123rd game of his career, leaving him two shy of the 125-win mark.
