IU Wraps Up Home Schedule

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana (17-10, 7-7) puts its 13-game homecourt winning streak in the month of March on the line when it hosts Minnesota (16-9, 8-6) on March 4 at Assembly Hall. Dave Barnett and Bill Raftery will call the action for ESPN, as will Don Fischer, Todd Leary and Joe Smith on the statewide Indiana Basketball Radio Network.The Minnesota game marks the final Assembly Hall appearance for Indiana seniors Tom Coverdale, Kyle Hornsby and Jeff Newton.

Through games of March 2, Indiana is ranked 34th in the RPI (College Basketball News, a replica of the RPI used by the NCAA Selection Committee) and 38th in the Sagarin Ratings (Hoosiers' strength of schedule is third). Should Indiana defeat Minnesota on March 4 and win at Penn State on March 8 (8:00 p.m., ESPN Plus Local), it would be 19-10 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten. The 9-7 record would likely place IU as the sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament, and the 19 wins would match the Hoosiers' 2001-02 regular season victory total.

 Indiana appears to be regaining its long distance shooting touch in time for the postseason. When IU made 10-of-24 three-pointers against Iowa, it marked the third straight game that the Hoosiers hit double-digit three-pointers. This is the first time in school history that IU has made at least 10 three-pointers in three straight games.

 When Jeff Newton blocked a Jared Reiner jumper with 7:31 left in the first half of Saturday's game, it marked the 214th block of Newton's career. This makes him the all-time leading shot blocker in Indiana history. Current Atlanta Hawk Alan Henderson is the previous record holder with 213 from 1992-95.

 When Tom Coverdale dished out six assists against Iowa on March 1, it marked the ninth time this season and the 33rd time in his career that he has had six assists in a game. Indiana is 7-2 this season and 25-8 in his career when Coverdale has at least six assists.

 Following the Iowa game, Indiana coach Mike Davis noted that senior guard Tom Coverdale is playing as well as he did during the Hoosiers' 2002 Final Four run. Take a look at Coverdale's statistics over the last three games, and you see that he is averaging 14 points per game and has dished out 16 assists compared to four turnovers. He is hitting 14-of-29 (.483) from the floor and 12-of-23 (.522) from beyond the three-point line.

 When freshman Bracey Wright scored a team-high 21 points against Iowa on March 1, it marked the 6-3 guard's eighth 20-plus point performance of the season.
