Roby, Bryant Make Spectacular Plays

Bloomington, Ind. - Day two of Spring Football at Indiana University got better and better as time wore on.
With the team playing in sweatpants and without pads, things got particularly interesting when the offense squared off against the defense in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills.
Highlight-reel quality plays were made on both sides of the ball during 7-on-7s, as cornerback Leonard Bryant made a diving interception of a Graeme McFarland pass intended for Travis Haney on the sideline. Bryant gave Haney a cushion to work with, but made an outstanding break on the ball to make the play. The play of the day from the offense was provided by receiver Courtney Roby and quarterback Matt LoVecchio. LoVecchio dropped back and lofted a perfect pass into the back left corner of the endzone, where Roby out-jumped three defenders to haul in the touchdown grab.
"We have had two good days," Head Coach Gerry DiNardo said. "Going with no pads has run its course, though. There has been good enthusiasm, and I'm pleased. It's tough to evaluate in a contact sport when there is no contact, though, but we're very happy."
The two most intense drills of the day were 11-on-11 drills and when the offensive linemen went head-to-head against the defensive linemen. The defense put its stamp on the 11-on-11 drills, doing an excellent job stopping the run.
As for the linemen squaring off, Chris Jahnke looked particularly solid for the offense. The junior from Louisville battled and was a formidable obstacle for the defensive line, which was led by the spirited play of sophomore Russ Richardson.
The Hoosiers return to the practice field on Tuesday.
