BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team placed third in the Hoosier Sevens 7 v 7 tournament this weekend in Mellencamp Pavilion. Louisville took first and Ball State University finished second.
"I was very happy with the way our performance improved from the first game to the last," head coach Amy Robertson said. "We finished third overall in the tournament and we looked extremely confident with our ball movement and off ball movement in the last two games. I think the team finally started to really have some fun after we had a few games under our belt, which is inevitable once you start to play with greater confidence. We need to find a way to start out these tournaments a little stronger. There were many positives that we can take away from our performance this weekend. One thing that I am really excited about is that this team is beginning to figure out tactical strategies on their own and take more accountability for understanding the game."
Indiana defeated Dayton and Miami (Ohio) and tied Louisville to finish third with nine points. Louisville finished the day with 15 points and BSU accumulated 13.
"This time of the year is ideal for improving our individual fundamental skills and providing all team members with more game experience," coach Robertson said. "The only way you can really get better in field hockey is just to play the game as much as possible."
The Hoosiers next spring tournament will be on Saturday, April 11 at the University of Louisville. The games will be played in a 7 v 7 format.
RESULTS:
1. Louisville
2. Ball State
