Hoosiers Set For Final Home Match of the Season

Bloomington, Ind.- The Indiana women's tennis team will end the home part of its schedule this weekend with two Big Ten matches. On Saturday, the Hoosiers will battle Iowa at 10:00 a.m. Indiana host No. 27 Minnesota on Sunday also at 10:00 a.m.
Both matches will be played at the Varsity Tennis Courts, weather permitting. If weather does not permit outdoor play, the matches will be held at the Indiana Tennis Center.

Scouting Iowa
Iowa enters its match with the Hoosiers at 4-12 overall on the season and 2-5 in the Big Ten conference.
The Hoosiers and Hawkeyes have six common opponents. The list of opponents include, Marquette, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan and Michigan State. The Hoosiers and Hawkeyes are both 2-4 against the group with both wins coming against Marquette and Michigan State.
Last week, the Hawkeyes lost to Wisconsin, 4-3, and Northwestern 7-0. The Hoosiers are 24-3 against the Hawkeyes all-time despite last seasons, 4-3 loss in Iowa City, Iowa.
Scouting Minnesota
Minnesota enters the match with the Hoosiers atop the Big Ten standings with a 13-5 overall mark and a 6-1 conference record.
Last weekend, Minnesota ended Northwestern's 29-match Big Ten winning streak with a 4-3 victory. They also defeated Wisconsin, 5-2. The Golden Gophers are currently riding a four-matching winning streak.
The Hoosiers and Gophers have played five common opponents in Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Wake Forest. Indiana is only 1-4 against the group, while Minnesota sits at 5-0.
IU is 23-4 all-time against Minnesota. Last season, the Gophers picked up a 4-3 win in Minneapolis.
Schedule Difficulty
The Hoosiers have compiled an 9-12 mark this season. Of the Hoosiers' 12 losses, ten have come to ranked opponents.
The losses to ranked opponents include No. 4 Duke (7-0), No. 14 Wake Forest (6-1), No. 30 Kentucky (7-0), No. 33 Wisconsin (5-2), No. 11 Northwestern (7-0), No. 12 Tennessee (7-0), No. 35 Ohio State (5-2), No. 75 DePaul (5-2), No. 27 Notre Dame (6-1) and No. 38 Michigan (5-2).
The schedule does not get easier for the Hoosiers as they still look to face three ranked opponents over their final four matches, including two in the top 40.
Last Week
The Hoosiers went 1-2 last week, but did pick up their first Big Ten win of the season. Senior Karie Schlukebir gave the Hoosiers a boost by returning to the lineup.
Schlukebir teamed with Linda Tran as the duo went 2-0 on the weekend with wins at the No. 2 spot against Michigan State and the No. 1 spot against Michigan.
The Hoosiers were able to win the doubles' point against both Michigan school thanks to come from behind victories by Sarah Batty and Martina Grimm. The pair came back from a 6-3 deficit against Michigan State and a 7-3 hole against Michigan.
IU downed Michigan State, 5-2, while falling to both No. 38 Michigan (5-2) and No. 27 Notre Dame (6-1). Batty won against Notre Dame and Michigan at No. 2 singles in pushing her season mark to 18-16. Against Michigan State, Indiana got wins from Linda Tran at No. 1, Martina Grimm at No. 3, Karie Schlukebir at No. 5 and Sophie Rychlik at No. 6. The win by Rychlik was her first career Big Ten win.
Moving Up the Charts
Senior Karie Schlukebir and junior Linda Tran have made their way into the top 10 on Indiana's career doubles' victories list.
Over the last three seasons, the duo has amassed a 73-25 record as a team. This season, the duo has amassed a 15-5 mark, including a 3-1 record in the Big Ten. Tran is two wins ahead of her partner in seventh with 88 wins. Schlukebir is tied for eighth at 86 wins. Tran is also fifth in career Big Ten doubles' wins with 23. Schlukebir is tied with Jody Yin for seventh on the all-time list with 21 wins.

Big Ten Player of the Week
March 18- Junior Linda Tran was recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week for her performance March 15 against Bowling Green and Cincinnati. It is the first Big Ten Player of the Week award ever given out because prior to this season the Big Ten only gave out Player-of-the-Month awards.
Tran led the Hoosiers to wins over Bowling Green (6-1) and Cincinnati (4-3). Saddled with injuries, Indiana had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches. Tran was able to help Indiana overcome the handicap with wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles in both matches.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan native is currently 12-14 in singles this season. She has teamed with sophomore Dominika Walterova over the Hoosiers last few matches. The duo has a 9-2 overall mark at the No. 2 doubles position. The had an eight match winning streak at one point.
