NCAA Sets Championship Pairings

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Women's Water Polo Committee has announced the teams that will participate in the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship.
The championship will be held May 10-11 at the Canyonview Pool in La Jolla, California. The University of California, San Diego will serve as the host institution.
The 2003 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship will be a four-team, single-elimination tournament (four games), with a losers' bracket to determine places three and four.
Stanford University (20-2) will face Indiana (26-9) on Saturday in the first game of the championship at 1:30 p.m. PT, followed by Loyola Marymount University (23-8), and the University of California, Los Angeles (21-4) in the second game, scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
"We are obviously excited to test ourselves against the best in the nation," said Indiana head coach Barry King. "We our happy to play Stanford first, and it helps having played them earlier in the year. I think we have a pretty good idea of what to expect."
The following conferences and institutions received automatic qualification: Collegiate Water Polo Association, Indiana; Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Stanford; and the Western Water Polo Association, Loyola Marymount. UCLA received the at-large bid.
This is the third National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship. Stanford earned its first title in the 2002 championship against rival UCLA.
