Hoosiers Continue to Struggle

East Lansing, Mich.- The Indiana men's tennis team continued to struggle as they lost to Michigan State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers dropped their third straight Big Ten match as they fell to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten.

Indiana once again showed its strength in the doubles with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Hoosiers have won the doubles' point in each of their last four matches.

The new team of senior Zach Held and freshman Viktor Libal continued to roll as they won their second straight match. The Hoosier duo downed Cameron Marshall and Eric Simonton, 9-7, at No. 1. The pair is 2-0 both overall and in the Big Ten.

At No. 2, sophomore Ryan Recht and freshman John Stone clinched the Hoosier point with a 9-8 (5) tiebreak win. The tandem improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

For the third straight match, the Hoosiers struggled in the singles. Against Ohio State the Hoosiers were only able to win one singles position. Yesterday against Michigan, the Hoosiers won only two spots. Today, the Spartans swept all six singles positions for the win. Only one of the six matches went to three sets, which was Viktor Libal's 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to Chris Mitchell.

The Hoosiers will look to snap their three-match losing streak when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on Saturday, April 12. Indiana will then battle Minnesota on Sunday, April 13, in Minneapolis. Both matches will carry a 12:00 p.m. start time.
