IU Finishes 4th in Home Event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind - Conditions at the Indiana Women's Golf Invitational Sunday were certainly not favorable for golf. Freezing, sure, but not golf. The Hoosiers struggled to a fourth-place finish in their home event, battling 35-degree temperatures, with wind chills hovering around 25.
This was not spring. This was winter all over again.
Purdue dominated the field on Sunday, taking home the team championship by 12 shots with a 916 (307-304-305). Missouri finished second at 928 (309-305-314), while Kent State was third at 934 (307-314-313).
Indiana was led by junior All-America candidate Karen Dennison, who has not finished out of the top ten once in seven events this year. Dennison, a native of Madison, Ind., tied for ninth place individually with a 231 (78-75-78). Junior Danah Ford and senior Cara Stuckey both tied for 15th overall at 235. Ambry Bishop, a junior from Franklin, Ind., carded a 79 Sunday, the second lowest final round score for the Hoosiers, and finished tied for 20th at 238.
Rounding out the play-six, count-four lineup for Indiana, was freshman Molly Redfearn, who tied for 45th at 250, and Mary Lidester in 58th place at 256.
Michigan's Kim Benedict held on to her slim lead in the individual race Sunday, carding a 2-over-par 76 to capture the championship by one stroke over Wisconsin's Katie Connelly.
The Hoosiers also fielded six individuals as well in the field, two of who finished among the top 40. Sophomore Bethany Brunner played outstanding for the Hoosiers this weekend, tying for 23rd overall with a 240 (81-79-80). Senior Adrienne Graessle tied for 38th at 247 (81-85-81), while classmate Shannon Carney finished at 252, tied for 52nd.
Also at 252 was redshirt freshman Megan Mulhaupt. Coming off strong rounds of 82 and 81 on the first day, Mulhaupt fell back into a tie with Carney, after an 89 on Sunday. Senior Jeana Finlinson finished 68th at 276, while redshirt freshman Katie Carlson tied for 69th at 277.
The Hoosiers will take next weekend off and then be back in action at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, April 19-20.
