Seniors Play in Barnstorming Tour

Bloomington, Ind. -Tom Coverdale, Kyle Hornsby and Jeff Newton may have ended their careers last month, but Hoosier fans around the state have one last chance to see the trio in action.

Newton, Coverdale, Hornsby, Hoosier legend Damon Bailey and former Indiana All-Stars Brad Borgman and Joey Ray will all be on hand.

Coverdale finished his career as the only player in IU history with 1,000 career points, 200 three pointers and 500 assists. The Noblesville native ended his career second on IU's career three-point list with 200, third on the career assists list with 500 and sixth on the career steals list with 137. He was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by both the league coaches and media. He also earned Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors for the period ending Dec. 8. The 2002-03 season saw Coverdale become the 37th member of IU's prestigious 1,000 career points club and moved to 28th on the list with 1,217 points in his Hoosier career. The season was highlighted by his performance against Maryland in the national title rematch game when he turned in a career-high-tying 30 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor and three-point range and 9-of-10 free throws against the Terps.

Hornsby ended his Hoosier career among the Big Ten leaders in three-point field goals per game (1.69) and eighth in percentage (.380). His senior campaign was highlighted by a career-high 19 points against Northwestern, a game where he also tied a career-high for three-point field goals with five. Hornsby, a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, is fourth on IU's career three-pointers list with 178.

Jeff Newton makes his exit from Indiana after earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors as voted by the league's media, earning Second-Team honors as voted by the Big Ten coaches. His season was highlighted by a career-high 16 rebounds in a victory over Minnesota on March 4 and he became IU's all-time leader in blocked shots with 214 against Iowa on March 1. He ends his career with 227. He earned Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 16, averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in two games. In his senior campaign he led the Big Ten with 11 double-doubles. Along with Coverdale, Newton became the 38th member of the 1,000 point club when he scored 24 against Michigan State on Feb. 8. He is currently 29th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,203. Newton is the 14th player in IU history to record 700 career boards. He ends his career with 727 rebounds, 11th on IU's all-time list.

The tour begins April 14 when play begins at 7 p.m. in Coverdale's hometown of Noblesville. Fans interested in attending a game in their area should contact the high school at which the game will be played.
