Bloomington, Ind. - Native Midwesterner Kevin Emberton joins the Indiana football coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2003 season. Emberton will work primarily with the defense.
Emberton comes to Indiana from Lafayette (Pa.) College, where he served in a similar role in helping the Leopards to a 5-1 home record in 2002 (including a perfect 4-0 mark at home against conference opposition.) Lafayette finished the season with a 7-5 overall mark, finishing third in the Patriot League.
A native of Normal, Ill., Emberton earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education at Illinois State. He began his coaching career at the age of 18, serving on the coaching staff at Olympia High School in Stanford, Ill. from 1997-2000. He was the freshman defensive coordinator and the varsity secondary coach and wide receivers coach for three years.
Emberton is a 2001 graduate of Illinois State University. He served as a volunteer defensive line coach at his alma mater during the 2002 spring practices and was an assistant coach at the high school level in Illinois since 1997.
In 2001, Emberton coached the defensive ends at Bloomington (Ill.) High School, helping guide them to a 12-1 record and a berth in the Class 6A state semifinals.
Lafayette recorded the second-best turnaround among NCAA Division I-AA programs in 2002. After finishing with a 2-8 overall record in 2001 and being picked seventh in the Patriot League's preseason poll, the Leopards improved by five victories to go 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League in 2002 for a third-place finish.
