IU Struggles at NCAA Regional

LINCOLN, Neb. - After waiting all day Thursday while heavy rains drenched the Firethorn G.C. in Lincoln, Neb., the NCAA Central Regional got underway on Friday, and the Indiana women's golf team finds itself in the middle of the pack after 36 holes.
A disappointing 314 in the first round, put the Hoosiers back in the pack, and was once 19th in the 21-team field. Indiana fought back in the second round with a 306, improving its position, and will now enter Saturday's final round in 15th place at 620, one shot ahead of conference foe Michigan State
Juniors Karen Dennison and Danah Ford stormed out of the gates on Friday, carding rounds of 2-over-par 73 each, which helped IU to its 314. Unfortunately for Indiana, the Hoosiers could not get first round support from Cara Stuckey, Molly Redfearn, and Ambry Bishop. The Hoosier trio struggled with rounds of 84, 84, and 85, respectively.
But Bishop would not stay down for long. The Franklin, Ind., native rebounded with a 75 to lead the Hoosiers in the second round. Dennison recorded a 76, while Ford finished with a 77 and Stuckey one stroke back at 78.
As a team, Dennison leads Indiana at 149, and is tied for 17th overall. Ford is one shot back, tied for 24th at 150. Bishop enters the final round at 160, while Stuckey is at 162, and Redfearn at 170.
The Hoosiers did fight back though, and will have to on Saturday as well to make the NCAA Championships field. The top eight teams from each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA finals in West Lafayette, Ind. in two weeks.
