Bloomington, Ind. - During the 2002-03 season, NCAA Division I men's basketball attendance surpassed the 25 million mark for the first time, and Indiana was once again among the national leaders in this category. An average of 16,527 fans passed through the turnstiles at Assembly Hall last season, as the Hoosiers led the Big Ten and ranked eighth nationally. Overall, a total of 198,321 fans came to IU's 12 home games last winter.For the 27th straight season, the Big Ten Conference led all Division I leagues in attendance. A total of 2,254,658 fans attended Big Ten teams' games in 2002-03, an average of 12,526 fans per game. Indiana owns four of the top 10 single-season home attendance figures in Big Ten history. In addition, during the 2001-02 season, as the Indiana Hoosiers made their magical run to the eighth Final Four appearance in school history, they were also the most-watched college basketball team in America. A nation's-best total of 644,641 fans saw Indiana play in person last season. This was over 20,000 more fans than the second most-watched team.
