IU Recruiting Class Highly Regarded (06-28-03)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University men's soccer team's 2003 recruiting class has been rated No. 7 nationally by Soccer America. IU received eight commitments this past fall and added one player this spring to form the class.
Kyle Brabender (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Preparatory), Julian Dieterle (Elgin, Ill./Larkin HS), Christopher Munroe (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS), Jacob Peterson (Portage, Mich./IMG Academy/Edison High School), Kevin Robson (St. Peters, Mo./Chaminade HS), Greg Stevning (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), Charley Traylor (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Jed Zayner (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg HS) combine to form the Hoosiers' fall class. Kyle Schwartz (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) committed to play at Indiana this past spring.
Indiana returns 12 letterwinners and six starters from last season's team that went 15-4-2 and played in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Jerry Yeagley has announced that the 2003 season will be his last as IU's head coach. Yeagley plans to retire from coaching the program he started at the end of his 31st season.
IU is set to play three schools whose recruiting class are ranked in Soccer America's top 10, Saint Louis (third), Notre Dame (fifth) and Penn State (sixth). Defending NCAA Champion UCLA boasts the country's top-ranked class followed by North Carolina at second. SMU (fourth), Clem son (eight), Stanford (ninth) and Virginia (10th) round out the top 10.
The Hoosiers will kick off the 2003 season by hosting the annual IU Credit Union/adidas Classic in Bloomington, August 29 and 30. IU welcomes Notre Dame, California and Alabama-Birmingham to Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana will play Cal on Friday and then face UAB on Saturday. Both Hoosier matches are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
