Season-Opener Televised

Bloomington, Ind. - The season-opening game between Indiana and Connecticut on Saturday, August 30 will be televised on WFSB TV-3 out of Hartford, Connecticut, with a kickoff time set for 11 a.m. central time. WFSB is the Hartford affiliate for CBS.
The game not only marks the beginning of Gerry DiNardo's second season at Indiana, but it is also the first game ever played at UConn's brand-new 40,000-seat stadium, Rentschler Field.
The game is the first-ever matchup between the Hoosiers and Huskies and will be the first game for quarterback Matt LoVecchio in an Indiana uniform.
The Hoosiers will face an extremely hungry UConn team that is set to join the BIG EAST Conference in football for the 2004 season, but remains a Division I-A Independent for the 2003 campaign.
The Hoosiers are led by LoVecchio, who is on the Davey O'Brien Award watch list as a possible candidate to be recognized as the nation's top quarterback. Also leading Indiana will be wide receivers Courtney Roby and Glenn Johnson. The two combined to make 112 catches for 1,876 yards and nine touchdowns last year.
Indiana's air attack promises to be potent, but it will be challenged by a UConn defense that ranked fifth in the nation among all Division I-A schools in pass defense last year (160.4 yards per game) and 19th nationally in total defense (316.1 yards per game.)
The game will also be broadcast throughout the Indiana Radio Network, with Don Fischer and Dan Thompson calling all the action and Joe Smith handling halftime and post-game show duties.
