Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana safety Joe Gonzalez was selected to FoxSports.com's All-Welcome Back team for the 2003 season.
The team is comprised of the best players in the country that missed all or most of their team's games last season.
Gonzalez is the only safety selected to the first-team, and the website gives this analysis: "The Hoosier defense gets back its most effective player, an honorable mention all-Big Ten selection in 2001. Gonzalez sat out IU's final nine games after having hernia surgery in September, but his health was not an issue this spring."
The fifth-year senior started three games last year, recording 18 tackles, a sack and an interception. The Avon Lake, Ohio native has registered 126 tackles (91 unassisted), 7.5 tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and recovered a fumble during his career at Indiana. He established a career-high 14 tackles against Utah last year before his season-ending surgery.
