Yeagley Honored in Ft. Wayne (08-23-03)

FT. WAYNE, Ind. -- The City of Ft. Wayne and Indiana University Purdue University-Ft. Wayne honored Indiana head soccer coach Jerry Yeagley for his efforts in helping to establish and develop the annnual IPFW Soccer Showcase Saturday night at halftime of a game between the North Carolina and Ohio State women's teams at the Hefner Soccer Complex. IPFW Chancellor Mike Wartell presented a proclamation from Ft. Wayne Mayor Graham Richard, proclaiming Aug. 23, Coach Jerry Yeagley Day.
Yeagley has been instrumental in building on the vision of one of his former players, IPFW head soccer coach Terry Stefankiewicz, to bring one of the nation's pewmier preseason collegiate soccer showcases to Ft. Wayne. As he is planning to retire at the conclusion of this season, IPFW wanted to honor him for his help with the Showcase and the success he has had over the course of his career.
In addition to the declaration of "Coach Jerry Yeagley Day," IPFW Athletic Director Mark Pope presented a plaque to Yeagley on behalf of the IFPW community as a thank you for his efforts. That plaque will be displayed on the Hefner Fields Pavilion. A "Thanks, Coach" sign was also unveiled by Stefankewiecz from the top of a massive, soccer-ball shaped hot air balloon.
