College Park, Md. - The No. 15 Indiana field hockey team fell to No. 20 Richmond, 2-0 Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers suffered their first loss of the season to drop their record to 4-1.
Richmond scored a goal in each half, both coming off penalty corners.
Indiana played hard until the last minute, but could not capitalize on Richmond's mistakes.
Head coach Amy Robertson was pleased with sophomore Morgan Albini's defensive performance, and thought junior Kayla Bashore played well at midfield.
"We started out anxious after not playing in two weeks," Robertson said. "We were overly excited at the start of the game, and settled down after the first goal. I think the team played well against Richmond, and that it was our best game so far this season. It was good learning experience as we start Big Ten season this Friday."
The Hoosiers are back in action at home on Friday, Sept. 26, at Mellencamp Pavilion as they take on No. 7 Michigan State at 6:00 p.m.
