Indiana Falls To Michigan State (9-26-03)

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team fell 6-0 to the Michigan State Spartans on Friday night in the Big Ten home opener. The Hoosiers drop to 4-2,as the Spartans improve to 6-3.
Head coach Amy Robertson was pleased with the overall performance of the Hoosiers.
"I am very proud of the way the girls played today," Robertson said. "We executed our game plan and played well. Michigan State was just successful in capitalizing on its scoring opportunities."
The scoring frenzy began only 2:31 into the game, as Veerle Goudswaard put one past goalkeeper Molly Pulkrabek. Goudswaard went on to score again in the second half.
Alexandra Kyser recorded two goals for Michigan State. Her second goal came off a penalty stroke.
Junior Kayla Bashore led the Hoosiers in shots with eight.
Overall, Indiana out shot Michigan State seven to six in the second half and finished with 10, while Michigan State had 15.Michigan State led in penalty corners with 10-6.
"Michigan State has a very strong scoring unit and are very dangerous with penalty corners," said Robertson. "I think the difference in the game was giving up penalty corners, and Michigan State executed well."
The Hoosiers are on the road Sunday, Sept. 28, to face Saint Louis University at 12:30 p.m.
