Pulkrabek Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior goalkeeper Molly Pulkrabek received Big Ten Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the period ending Sept. 7, the league office announced Monday. Pulkrabek led the Hoosiers in the back with seven saves in Friday's 2-0 victory against Ball State.
Pulkrabek, a native of Barrington, Ill., becomes only the Indiana field hockey player to receive Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice in her career. Pulkrabek received Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7, 2001, for her performance against Stanford. She is also the second straight Indiana player to receive Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors in 2003. Freshman Morgan Miller earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 31.
Pulkrabek has four wins on the season, recording two shutouts against Central Michigan and Ball State. She has also helped Indiana to two other shutout victories against Miami (Ohio) and Southwest Missouri State.
"To have played four games and have no goals scored against us, shows how determined our defense is to not allow the opponent to score," said head coach Amy Robertson. "This is a huge accomplishment for Molly and the entire team. Molly has played exceptional. There have been opportunities generated from our opponents to take good shots, and Molly had shut them down. She is very confident, competitive and very aggressive. She takes risks sometimes and they have paid off for her."
The 4-0 Hoosiers return to action on the road in Williamsburg, Va., to face William and Mary (2-1) Friday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m. and Richmond (2-1) Sunday, September 21, at 1:00 p.m.
